    Steps related to this kind of work vary a lot depending on the condition of the doors and the essence of the wood

    Door restorations in the workshop.

    We remove doors and replace them with temporary doors to restore shop projects. Normally, we try to arrange the doors temporarily with the appearance of the doors removed so that the house does not have a mismatched appearance during the time of the work. The temporary doors installed are functional and you will be able to use them.

    Full stripping of doors

    A complete stripping of the doors is carried out in the workshop. Some boxes (small squares) located inside the doors may need to be replaced if they are cracked. The moldings are also replaced most of the time in order to save time.

    Final sanding

    Following the stripping, a thorough sandblasting is carried out in order to make the door smooth and free from defects as far as possible. Typically a 120 grit and a finish ranging from 150 to 220 grit is made.

    Finishing coat

    5 coats are applied to the restored wooden doors to provide optimal protection. We use the same range of products used by companies manufacturing solid wood doors and garage doors in Quebec. Our cabinetmakers in the workshop are also able to create identical colors or develop a color specific to your taste

    What is the average work duration?

    In general, a delay of 4 to 6 weeks is to be expected between the removal of the doors and their return. However, these delays are shorter when the work is carried out during the winter season. The edges that cannot be treated during this period are generally restored before the onset of winter and/or in spring at the very beginning of the season.

    What to do if some parts of the wooden door are broken?

    Where is the work done?

    Our workshop is equipped with a paint and dye room specially designed for these specific tasks.

    What proportion of the work is done on site?

    On site, we take care of restoring the door frames, the “side-lights” as well as the transoms that cannot easily be removed. We completely strip the wood and carry out the same steps as the steps carried out in the workshop on these facings.
